Avalon Waterways Vienna on the Danube to Basel on the Rhine (WVZ)

13 days from Vienna to Basel
This Europe river cruise vacation will touch four countries on three rivers and the Main Danube Canal, with a chance to immerse yourself in the cultures, and explore the most famous sites at each stop. The magic of this river cruise can also be experienced right from your ship as you enjoy a glass of wine and watch the beauty of the European countryside and charming villages pass by.

Vienna, the “City of Music,” appropriately named for inspiring the creative genius of Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss, is the capital of Austria and one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. A local expert will show you the must-see sights. In your free time, stroll along the pedestrian Kärntnerstrasse with its many shops and enjoy a piece of Apfelstrudel in a classic Viennese café. Stop for a guided walk in the charming town of Dürnstein, then cruise through the picturesque Wachau Valley. First stop in Germany is Passau, where the rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz meet. Delight in the town’s winding narrow streets and the magnificent baroque St. Stephen’s Cathedral. A Local Guide will show you historical Nuremberg, which suffered much damage during WWII, but has been mostly restored to its former glory. Regensburg, Germany, dates back to the Holy Roman Empire, and this inspirational city offers countless historical buildings and architectural wonders, including the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall). Along the Main River, stop in the charming town of Kitzingen, Bavaria’s biggest wine producer. Strasbourg sits on the border of France and Germany and perfectly blends the cultures of both countries. Visit the historic quarter known as La Petite France. Stroll down the lovely waterfront promenade and see the half-timbered houses reflected in the water, then stop inside the quaint shops for souvenirs and try a local delicacy in one of the inviting bistros.

Your picturesque river cruise vacation ends in Basel, Switzerland.
