Bulgaria is a country located in Southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Romainia to the north, Servia and Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south, and the Black Sea to the east. Prehistoric clutures began develop on Bulgarian lands during the Neolithic period.  It is a member of  the European Union, NATO, the Council of Europe, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and has had a seat on the UN Security Council. Notable are the Danubian Plain,  the Balkan Mountains, the Thracian Plain and the Rhodope Mountains. The longest river solely inn Bulgarian territory is the Iskar.There are two other major rivers, the Struma and the Maritsa.
