Day: 1 Your Journey Begins
Board your overnight flight to Europe (please ask about our great deals).
Day: 2 Arrive Cairo
Welcome to Egypt – a land that abounds in ancient wonders and mysteries which have enthralled travellers for centuries. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Day: 3 Cairo and the Great Pyramids of Giza Experience
In the morning, join your Tour Director, a professionally trained and educated Egyptologist, for a detailed pre-tour briefing. A guided visit of Giza shows you the enigmatic Sphinx and magnificent pyramids, the last survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Included is a highlight visit inside one of these extraordinary creations! Then journey to Memphis, to view the colossal statue of Rameses II and Great Alabaster Sphinx. Nearby at Sakkara, view the Step Pyramid of Zoser; dating from 2,686 BC, it's the oldest in the world. In the evening, get to know your Tour Director and fellow guests over a Welcome Drink at the hotel.(BB / WR)
Day: 4 The Citadel and Egyptian Museum in Cairo
Start the day with a vsisit to the Egyptian Museum, an unrivaled warehouse of pharaonic treasures, housing the golden treasure recovered from the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Next visit Tahrir Square - the sprawling urban space that became famous over 18 historic days of protests, leading to the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak. Continue to the Citadel for breathtaking views over the city and visit the Alabaster Mosque. Complete you sightseeing with at the Khan El Khalili Bazaar.(BB)
Day: 5 Board your Cruise Ship and the Temple of Abu Simbel
(Relaxed Start) Transfer to the airport for your flight via Aswan, to the ancient Nubian lands near Egypt's southern border. On arrival, board your comfortable cruise boat on Lake Nasser. Get your camera ready for your visit to the Great Temple of Abu Simbel, where you'll be confronted with four towering statues of Rameses himself, carved out of a single slab of rock. The smaller Temple of Hathor is also guarded by six 10 metre statues. Spend some time exploring inside the 3,200 year old walls, depicting scenes of Rameses and the Gods. At night, experience the monuments lit in all their glory at the Sound & Light Show.(BB / L / D)
Day: 6 Kasr Ibrim and Amada
In the morning, cruise to the ancient ruined citadel of Kasr Ibrim, still occupying its original strategic high ground. Through desert lands and onto Amada, noted for having the oldest surviving structure on Lake Nasser - it also has some of the finest carvings of any Nubian temple. Explore the temple dedicated to Amun-Re and Re-Harrakte as well as visiting the Tomb of Penniut, deputy of Nubia. Sail on to Wadi El Seboua and in the evening enjoy a cocktail party and Nubian show.(BB / L / SE)
Day: 7 The Valley of the Lions
Spend time in Wadi El Sebou and visit the 'Valley of the Lions', named after the great Avenue of Sphinxes which led to the Temple of Rameses II. There's time to relax and enjoy your superb cruise facilities as you continue on to exotic Aswan - where the Middle East overlaps with Africa.(BB / L / D)
Day: 8 Cruise the Nile in style
Disembark to Visit the Temple of Kalabsha, built by the Roman Emperor Octavius Augustus and dedicated to the local Fertility God, Mandulis. Cross over to the modern High Dam to visit the granite quarries where an unfinished obelisk still lies attached to the bedrock. Take a motorboat to the lyrical Temples of Philae, rising from the waters of the Nile. Later, catch the gentle breezes and river currents aboard a felucca; these traditional sailboats have plied the Nile since ancient times. As a special welcome, enjoy a colonial-style high tea at the Old Cataract Hotel before embarking your cruise ship.(BB / L / AT / D)
Day: 9 Cruising to Kom Ombo and Edfu
(Relaxed Start) The morning is at leisure. Maybe take an optional experience to Abu Simbel, by air? These magnificent temples were cut from their hillside origin in the 1960's and repositioned above the waterline of the newly created Lake Nasser. Later, cruise to Kom Ombo and visit the only temple in Egypt dedicated to two gods: the crocodile-headed Sobek and falcon-headed Horus the Elder. Continue past irrigated fields and palm-fringed villages to Edfu. Celebrate, Egyptian-style, in the evening, at a galabeya party and dinner.(BB / L / SE)
Day: 10 Cruising the Nile to Luxor
After breakfast, enjoy a visit to the beautifully preserved Temple of Horus, the Falcon God. Witness the grandiose set of reliefs depicting the ritual in which Horus defeated his arch enemy, Seth. Sail through the Esna Lock and downstream to Luxor. On arrival, visit the temple of Luxor, lost for centuries beneath the streets of the town.(BB / L / D)
Day: 11 To the Valley of the Kings, Karnak and flight to Cairo
Drive over to the west bank of the Nile for a photo stop at the towering Colossi of Memnon. Your visit to the Valley of the Kings - burial place of many of the New Kingdom Pharaohs - includes venturing underground into some of the preserved royal tombs. Continue to the reconstructed Temple of Hatshepsut, who was one of the few female rulers in Ancient Egypt, before visiting a working bakery to witness the local artisans making authentic Egyptian bread. Return to Luxor and the amazing temple complex of Karnak. Among its splendours is the vast Hypostyle Hall, the largest of any temple in the world. Later, transfer to the airport to board your flight back to Cairo.(BB)
Day: 12 Depart Cairo
Your incredible journey comes to a close with a transfer to the airport.(BB)
