Itinerary (2023)Day 1 | ARRIVE IN NAIROBI, KENYA. | | Welcome to Africa! Hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in. | Day 2 | NAIROBI–MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE AREA | | This morning, visit the elephant orphanage at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, founded by Dame Daphne Sheldrick. Here, you will learn about elephant conservation and meet elephant calves, orphaned by poachers, before they are re-introduced to the wild. Afterwards, fly to Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya’s most famous game area, and set out on your first game drive in search of the “Big 5”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. (B,D) | Day 3 | MAASAI MARA AREA | | The “Mara,” as it is called by the locals, is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and boasts a strong permanent population of game. When the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra arrives the population enlarges by almost 2 million. This provides a great food source for lion, leopard, and hyena. You’ll have ample opportunity to spot these predators and many other animals on morning and afternoon game drives with your expert Driver/Guide. (B,L,D) | Day 4 | MAASAI MARA AREA | | Further explore this magical place during morning and afternoon game drives. Watch for elephant, rhino, topi, cheetah, and more. Between game drives, relax at your safari lodge or tented camp. (B,L,D) | Day 5 | MAASAI MARA AREA–NAIROBI | | This morning, join your Driver/Guide for one last game drive. Later, board a plane for the short flight back to Nairobi where you will overnight. (B) | Day 6 | NAIROBI–VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE | | This morning, fly to Zimbabwe. This evening, enjoy a cruise on the Zambezi River, which affords you a great opportunity to photograph wildlife and a spectacular African Sunset. (B) | Day 7 | VICTORIA FALLS | | Today, visit mighty Victoria Falls for an awe-inspiring experience. Enjoy a private guided walk, where you will learn the history of the falls and hear fascinating details about the surrounding flora and fauna. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. (B) | Day 8 | VICTORIA FALLS–CHOBE NATIONAL PARK AREA, BOTSWANA. | | Today, a private transfer brings you to Chobe National Park, featuring some of the greatest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Enjoy an afternoon game activity before dinner. (B,L,D) NOTE:Shared game activities in Chobe vary by lodge, but mainly consist of game drives/boat excursions. See accommodation descriptions on our website for specific details. | Day 9 | CHOBE AREA. | | Explore this stunning land on morning and afternoon game activities. You may see giraffe, lion, lechwe, and huge herds of elephant. It is said that these are the largest elephants in the world. Spend the middle of the day at your leisure. (B,L,D) | Day 10 | CHOBE AREA–CAPE TOWN. | | Today, fly to beautiful Cape Town (via Johannesburg), widely referred to as the “Mother City” by locals. (B) | Day 11 | CAPE TOWN. | | Start your private guided tour with a cable-car ride up Table Mountain for stunning views of the city, Robben Island, and the Cape Winelands. Next, stop at Boulders Beach to visit a colony of endangered African Penguins, known for the unique sound they make. After lunch, continue on to Cape Point Nature Reserve. Stop at the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, for a scenic funicular ride to the steps of the old lighthouse. On your return journey, skirt the rocky coastline as you ascend Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular drives in the world. (B,L) | Day 12 | CAPE TOWN | | Enjoy a full day at your leisure. Your Local Host is happy to make recommendations. (B) | Day 13 | CAPE TOWN–KRUGER NATIONAL PARK AREA. | | Today, fly to the Kruger National Park Area and check in to your lodge in a private game reserve. The Kruger area is famous for its abundance of wildlife, so you have a great chance to see the “Big 5”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. Set out on your first game drive this afternoon in an open-air, 4-wheel-drive safari vehicle. (B,D) | Day 14 | KRUGER AREA. | | Your skilled, professional Ranger will help you learn about this special ecosystem as you view wildlife up close on morning and afternoon game drives. Beyond the “Big 5,” you’ll have the chance to see kudu, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, spotted hyena, bushbaby, and more! (B,L,D) | Day 15 | KRUGER AREA. | | Embark on your morning game drive before returning to your lodge for breakfast and time at leisure. Take advantage of the lodge pool, relax with a book, or enjoy a drink at the bar. Your afternoon game drive concludes with a sundowner drink as the sun sets over the bushveld! (B,L,D) | Day 16 | KRUGER AREA–JOHANNESBURG–DEPARTURE. | | Enjoy one last game drive this morning before flying to Johannesburg where your vacation ends. Schedule departing flights after 5:30 pm.
