9 days from Hobart to Hobart 
Ready to discover what all the fuss is about? Serving up waterfalls, wine tastings, and rustic, resort lodges within a stone’s throw of some of Australia’s most spectacular sights, this 9-day Tassie tour will introduce you to the favourite features and creatures of this idyllic island state.

Beginning and ending in Hobart, you’ll savour local oysters, cheeses and more while on a tasting tour of the remote and relatively untouched Bruny Island, before venturing deep into Tasmanian wilderness on a luxurious cruise across the serene Gordon River. Pack your binoculars as back-to-back visits to World Heritage Listed national parks bring you face-to-face with ancient rainforests, gleaming glacial-carved lakes and furry locals, all while staying in some truly legendary lodges. Enjoy two nights swathed within the rugged elegance of Cradle Mountain, followed by two nights under the roof of Freycinet National Park’s award-winning cabins.

The final course? A panoramic cruise along the alluring azure waters of Wineglass Bay, providing the perfect end to an unforgettable Tasmanian holiday.

Itinerary (2024)

Day 1ARRIVE IN HOBART, AUSTRALIA
 Welcome to “Van Diemen’s Land!” Your room is available for immediate check-in. A pre-night is not required for early check-in. Please schedule your flights to arrive by 4pm in order to attend this evening’s welcome meeting and drink.
Day 2HOBART. EXCURSION TO BRUNY ISLAND
 To Market, To Market Visit the famous Salamanca Market with a chance to meet artisans and taste fresh local produce. There’s time to explore on your own, grab a coffee, and do some shopping. Then head to [LF] Bruny Island for a tasting tour of this rugged island. Return to Hobart where your evening is at leisure. Why not explore Battery Point with its interesting shops and restaurants, sample some freshly caught fish and chips, or sample some of the locally made wines and spirits? (B,L)

LOCAL FAVORITE
FRESH TASTES Head to Bruny Island, home to breathtaking landscapes, stunning wildlife and array of foods to delight the sense. Visit the Neck Lookout and Two Tree Point for amazing views and stroll through Mavista Rainforest to look for white wallabies. Enjoy some of the island’s specialities such as oysters, seafood, berries, local wine, beer, and whiskey. After your time here, you’ll see why Bruny Island is considered to be a nature lover and foodie’s dreamscape.
Day 3HOBART–MOUNT FIELD NATIONAL PARK–LAKE ST CLAIR NATIONAL PARK–STRAHAN
 A Walk In The Park Depart Hobart and travel to breathtaking Mount Field National Park. Enjoy a walk through towering tree ferns and giant eucalypts before arriving at spectacular Russell Falls. Continue deep into the heart of the Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage area and visit Lake St. Clair, one of Tasmania’s most beautiful places. Later, enjoy a stop at the Wall in the Wilderness art project. Continue to the small town of Strahan located on MacQuarie Harbour on Tasmania’s west coast. (B,D)
Day 4STRAHAN–CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
 A River Runs Through It Start your day with a scenic cruise on the Gordon River and into the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area. Later this afternoon, find yourself in Cradle Mountain National Park, home to towering mountains, ancient rainforests, and abundant wildlife. (B,L,D)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT
SCENIC WONDERS Soak up the serene beauty of Western Tasmania on a cruise of the Gordon River. You’ll travel into the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and enjoy amazing scenery. Keep your camera handy for some great photo opportunities. You’ll pass Hells Gates, see Sarah Island and learn of its convict history. It will be a morning of experiencing untouched rainforest, rugged history, and fascinating characters of Tasmania’s west coast.

Day 5CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
 Pristine Paradise Today is spent exploring the beauty of Cradle Mountain National Park. Morning sightseeing includes a visit to the Romy Creek Boardwalk. On this easy walk, take in the fresh air and scenic views. Keep your eyes open for wombats, the chubby little marsupials who call this part of the park home. Then, travel to Dove Lake, set beneath the towering spires of Cradle Mountain. There’s time to admire the scenery, snap photos and for those who wish, take the walking trail around the lake for a full perspective (approximately 6 km/3.7 miles). This afternoon is yours to explore the park at leisure. (B)

LOCAL FAVORITE
CONSERVATION HEROES This evening, enjoy a behind-the-scenes visit to [LF] Devils@Cradle, a unique sanctuary concentrating primarily on the Tasmanian devil. A specialist will discuss biology, behaviour, threats, and the important work being done to save these vulnerable animals. Then, you’ll observe the amazing nighttime antics of these animals being fed. It won’t take you long to see how the fierce Tassie devil got its name!

ENHANCED FREE TIME
EXPLORE MORE There are many walking and hiking trails to explore. Keep your eye out for wallabies, quolls, echidnas, and maybe even a platypus. You may also want to visit the Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery dedicated to Tasmanian artists, or just relax at your hotel and take in the amazing environment. Day 6CRADLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK–SHEFFIELD–LAUNCESTON–FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK
 Sips & Sights This morning, our first stop is in Sheffield, known as the Town of Murals. We then make a stop in Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city to visit the scenic Cataract Gorge. Before arriving at our resort, visit a local winery. (B,D)

WINNING WINES Josef Chromy fled his war-torn Czech village in 1950 and immigrated to Australia. He has been instrumental in the development of the Tasmanian food and wine industry. In 2007, he launched Josef Chromy Winery which quickly amassed trophies and medals. Learn about Joe and visit the estate’s original 1880s homestead, surrounded by century-old gardens. Enjoy a tasting while enjoying views of the surrounding vineyards. The idyllic location makes it almost impossible not to relax and enjoy.

Day 7FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK
 Tasmanian Treasures Start your day with a cruise on Wineglass Bay followed by a visit to the Cape Tourville Lighthouse. The remainder of the day is at leisure for you to enjoy the resort or explore on your own. From the Lodge you can easily enjoy a number of short, accessible walks within Freycinet National Park, or you may want to consider the more challenging Wine Glass Bay hike for amazing views. (B,L)

NATURAL BEAUTIES Today, experience one of Tasmania’s most extraordinary places, Wineglass Bay. Your cruise includes the history and sights of the Freycinet Peninsula and features amazing scenery and one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Keep your eyes out for wildlife including whales, seals, penguins, dolphins, and more. This cruise is sure to be one a highlight of your time in Tasmania.

NOTE:
The optional Wine Glass Bay hike is challenging. The walk is via marked paths but there are stairs which must be climbed. Suitable footwear should be worn. Please speak to your Tour Director if you are unsure of your ability.
Day 8FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK–HOBART
 Happy in Hobart Return to Hobart where your afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant featuring fresh seafood and local wines. The perfect ending to your holiday in Tasmania! (B,D)
